The Power Practice is the premier optometry business coaching and consulting firm, now led by Eugene Shatsman (who took over as host of the Power Hour Podcast). Founded by Dr. Gary Gerber, OD — who practiced optometry for over 20 years before dedicating himself full-time to industry innovation — The Power Practice was acquired in 2020 by Dr. Imran Hakim, a world-renowned entrepreneur, innovator, and optometrist. The firm does one thing: grow optometric practices. And they do it exceptionally well.

Content covers how to start and grow an independent optometry practice, optical dispensary revenue optimization and frame board management, optometry practice financial management and profitability analysis, patient experience and retention strategies for eye care practices, marketing and patient acquisition for optometrists, staffing and team leadership in optometric practices, specialty services expansion (dry eye, myopia management, vision therapy), navigating insurance and managed care in optometry, practice valuation and exit planning for optometrists, and industry trends and innovation in eye care.

What makes The Power Practice exceptional is their singular focus on optometry — they are not generalist business coaches who dabble in eye care, but rather specialists who have dedicated their entire organization to growing optometric practices. The Power Hour Podcast has generated millions of listens and is widely considered the #1 business podcast in optometry. The show features conversations on industry news, innovation, growth strategies, and leadership development, regularly bringing in guests from both inside and outside the optometric industry. Their team includes OD consultants (many of whom are former clients who grew their own practices using Power Practice methods) and business coaches who provide hands-on support.

The Power Practice monetizes through their optometric practice consulting and coaching programs, the Power Hour Podcast sponsorships and advertising, speaking engagements at optometry conferences (Vision Expo, AOA OptometrySM Meeting), optometry industry partnerships and vendor relationships, premium training content and practice growth resources, and group coaching and mastermind programs for optometric practice owners.

For Moonlite users, optometry practice ownership is a highly attractive healthcare business opportunity. The average optometry practice generates $700,000-$1.5M in annual revenue, with well-managed practices achieving 30-35% net income. Startup costs for a new optometry practice range from $150,000-$400,000, with practice acquisitions typically priced at 60-75% of annual gross revenue. The US eye care market exceeds $45 billion, driven by an aging population, increasing screen time leading to more vision issues, and growing demand for specialty services like myopia management and dry eye treatment. With over 40,000 practicing optometrists in the US, the market supports both new entrants and acquisitions. The Power Practice provides the specialized coaching to help optometrists build practices that are both clinically excellent and financially thriving.
