James Hamilton, known online as Stumpy Nubs, is one of the longest-running and most respected woodworking educators on YouTube, with nearly 1 million subscribers and over 30 million annual views. Since launching his channel in 2011, he has built a comprehensive woodworking education empire that includes courses, project plans, tool reviews, and his bestselling book, The Homemade Workshop.

Content covers woodworking technique tutorials for all skill levels, detailed tool reviews and buying guides, shop setup and workshop organization, jig building and shop hacks to improve efficiency, woodworking project plans and walk-throughs, the business side of woodworking (selling projects, pricing, finding customers), woodworking industry news and trends, hand tool and power tool technique comparisons, finishing techniques (staining, painting, sealing), and beginner-friendly projects that build foundational skills.

What makes Stumpy Nubs exceptional is his ability to combine deep technical knowledge with an approachable, entertaining teaching style. Unlike many woodworking channels that focus solely on beautiful builds, James emphasizes education — teaching viewers WHY techniques work, not just how to do them. His Stumpy Nubs Woodworking Journal website extends the learning with structured courses and downloadable plans, creating a complete education platform beyond just YouTube videos.

James monetizes through YouTube ad revenue, his StumpyNubs.com platform (courses and project plans), book sales, tool sponsorships, and affiliate partnerships. His consistent output since 2011 has built one of the most trusted brands in woodworking education, with viewers regularly citing his channel as the go-to recommendation for learning woodworking.

For Moonlite users, woodworking is an ideal trade business to start. Custom furniture makers charge $50-150+ per hour, and simple items like cutting boards, floating shelves, or farmhouse tables can be produced and sold on Etsy, at craft fairs, or through local markets with minimal startup investment. Stumpy Nubs provides the complete education roadmap — from learning your first cuts to running a profitable woodworking operation — making the path from hobbyist to business owner clear and achievable.
