Jonathan Goodman is the founder of The Personal Trainer Development Center (PTDC) and the Online Trainer Academy (OTA), widely regarded as the most influential educator in the personal training business space. He has authored 11 books on fitness business, lived in 10 countries, and built the largest platform dedicated to helping personal trainers build profitable businesses — both in-person and online.

Content covers how to start a personal training business from scratch, transitioning from employed trainer to independent business owner, building an online personal training business, client acquisition strategies for personal trainers, pricing personal training services for profitability, creating training programs that deliver results and retain clients, marketing yourself as a personal trainer on social media, building passive income streams as a fitness professional, the business fundamentals most certification programs never teach, and scaling from one-on-one training to group programs and digital products.

What makes Jonathan exceptional is that he identified and filled the massive gap between fitness certification and business success. Most personal training certifications teach anatomy and exercise science but zero business skills — leaving new trainers technically qualified but financially struggling. Jonathan built the PTDC to solve this exact problem, creating the bridge between being a great trainer and running a great training business. His Online Trainer Academy has certified thousands of trainers worldwide, and his books (including "Ignite the Fire" and "The Wealthy Fit Pro") are considered essential reading in the fitness industry.

Jonathan monetizes through the Online Trainer Academy certification program, book sales, the PTDC website (which generates revenue through courses and affiliate partnerships), podcast sponsorships, speaking engagements, and consulting. His approach emphasizes building sustainable, client-focused businesses rather than chasing viral social media fame.

For Moonlite users, personal training is a $15 billion industry with strong demand and multiple business models. In-person trainers earn $40-100+ per hour, while online trainers can serve clients globally and earn $5,000-20,000+ monthly. The business can be started with just a certification ($500-2,000) and a phone, with no need for a physical gym space if going the online route. Jonathan provides the complete business playbook that turns fitness knowledge into a sustainable income, whether you want a local studio practice or a global online coaching business.
