April Wilkerson is one of the most successful DIY woodworking creators on YouTube, with over 1.4 million subscribers. She started her channel in 2012 with zero woodworking experience and built it into a full-time career and multi-employee business, proving that anyone can learn a skilled trade and monetize it through content creation.

Content covers step-by-step woodworking tutorials for beginners and intermediates, furniture building projects (tables, desks, shelving, outdoor furniture), DIY home improvement and renovation projects, welding and metalworking basics, shop setup and organization tips, tool reviews and recommendations for budget-conscious makers, how to turn a woodworking hobby into a business, scrap lumber project ideas, and building income streams through YouTube content creation in a skilled trade niche.

What makes April exceptional is her relatability and transparency. She started with no formal training and learned everything on camera, which makes her tutorials especially approachable for beginners. She completes many projects using scrap lumber and affordable tools, showing viewers they do not need expensive equipment to get started. Her honest approach to mistakes and learning has built an incredibly loyal community. YouTube itself featured her story on its official blog as an example of a creator building a thriving business through the platform.

April monetizes through YouTube ad revenue, brand sponsorships with tool companies, her website WilkerDos.com which sells project plans and merchandise, and her various business ventures. She has hired nine employees to help run her operations, demonstrating the scale a woodworking content business can reach.

For Moonlite users, April represents the ultimate proof of concept for starting a skilled trade business through content creation. Woodworking has low barriers to entry (you can start with basic hand tools for under $200), projects can be monetized through commissions, Etsy sales, or local markets while YouTube content generates passive income. Her journey from complete beginner to 1.4M-subscriber creator with a team of nine employees shows how a hands-on skill combined with consistent content creation can build a six-figure-plus business.
