Friend spent $200 on Facebook ads, got 500+ visits and zero sales, what’s going wrong?

Handbag business

He recently shut down a previous store that didn’t work out and started fresh. This time he’s selling women’s handbags and long wallets, dropshipped from AliExpress. He doesn’t have the capital yet to fully brand or manufacture his own products, so this is his starting point.

He invested in a paid Shopify theme, bought a domain, and spent hours writing detailed product descriptions and coming up with good titles since most of the products are unbranded. Materials are a mix of genuine leather and high-quality PU. He’s offering free shipping to the US and Canada.

Pricing-wise, he set it up so he’d make around $100 profit per handbag. He even had people browsing around, and a few signed up for the email list, but no one actually bought.

Now he’s stuck wondering:

  • Is the pricing the issue?

  • Is it trust?

  • Is it the product-market fit?

  • Or is this just too early to expect sales from cold traffic?

He genuinely believes this could work and doesn’t want to shut the store down again, but the zero-sale result really shook his confidence.

If you’ve been through something similar, especially with fashion, accessories, or dropshipping, what would you tell him? Where do you think he’s going wrong, or what should he rethink first?
