Every time I look into cybersecurity, I keep running into certs Security+, CEH, CISSP, Google’s one, etc. Some people say they’re essential to break in. Others say nobody really cares and it’s all about hands-on skills.
Trying to figure out how much weight these certs actually carry in the real world. Like, do they help you land jobs or just check a box for HR filters?
If you’re already in the field, did a cert actually help you get your first role or level up? Or was it more about projects, referrals, or just being in the right place at the right time?
Just trying to avoid wasting time and money if it’s not gonna matter.
