Photography is not super risky in the traditional sense. There is no certificate needed and you can start small without quitting your job. The real “risk” is more about your effort and consistency. You need a portfolio, you need to show up well, and you need to communicate fast. If you do not do those things, it will feel risky because you will not get clients.
There is also a real risk around gear and files. Cameras fail. Cards fail. You have to back everything up. That is why I said you eventually need two cameras. Clients are trusting you with big moments and you do not get do overs. So the risk is in the responsibility side more than the money side.
If you are reliable, organized, and you like people, it is a low risk thing to try. If you struggle with follow through or client communication, that is where the risk shows up.
