Passive income: NO

Ethnographer
Earning passive income as an ethnographer is challenging because the nature of the work is inherently active and research-intensive. Most ethnographers engage in fieldwork, interviews, and data analysis, which require ongoing involvement. To make it passive, one would need to create systems like publishing books or research papers that generate royalties, or developing a subscription-based platform for ethnographic content. However, these avenues often require significant upfront work and are not guaranteed to succeed. From my experience and observations on platforms like Reddit and YouTube, only a few outliers manage to achieve passive income, often by leveraging their work into other areas like consulting or speaking engagements. Many people fall for the myth that writing a book or creating a course will automatically lead to passive income, but these require continuous marketing and updates. Realistically, passive income in ethnography is more attainable for those with established reputations and networks, while newcomers may struggle to reach this level without diversifying their income streams.
